Fascinating.

The evolutionary pyramid concept is compelling, but the author seems to think that modern social forces alone will drive further human evoloution. In most of the world, natural selection has been conquered by medical science and people who never would have reproduced in the past are having children.

A paradigm shift of evolution is taking place, and while societal forces may have some effect, most of the changes will occur as a result of our larger brain power gaining the capabilities to understand itself. Direct genetic manipulation and "smart drugs" will foster the advent of Homo sapiens sapiens sapiens (really really smart man) over the coming centuries. The question of course is can our more primitive social structures handle it? We (suprisingly) made it through 60 years of nuclear tension. Will society be able to handle the next technological leaps????
