I once read the autobiography of a former magazine editor who had incomplete "locked in syndrome" and who could only communicate by blinking one eyelid. He somehow devised a communication system with his ghostwriter. The most poignant part of his story was how frustrated and saddened he was that he couldn't communicate his love to his small children. I read the book on an airplane flight and gave it to the passenger sitting next to me, who had just graduated from medical school....
